Joy!!

25 April 2003 Al Dinaweah, Iraq

Ahoy!

Hopefully we're on our way home. We are currently in an assembly area just north of the Euphrates River, trying to collect up our AAV companies. They are dropping off their infantry and coming in tired and dirty. Now we need to do complete maintenance inspections and gear inventories. As soon as the tractor trailers arrive, we will begin moving all the amtracs back to Kuwait for backload. Believe me, we are as anxious to go as you are for us to return.

Duststorms today and heat in the 95 degree range. We have hot chow (trayrats) every other day and we are just setting up some showers. Now that we are not moving ammunition forward, mail is coming in by the truckload. With all these packages, everyday is like Christmas.

We are hopeful to have the battalion returning to Del Mar by mid May. That is the plan. Unfortunately all plans are subject to change. A million things could happen to delay the movement, but I am personally optimistic. There are some Marines & a Sailor that we need to leave behind for backload, but at this time we have plenty of volunteers. Mostly single guys that are looking for the unique experience and the extra pay.

Hang in there. Keep the faith and stay in touch with your KVN. As soon as we get word on when Marines are flying, we will pass it to CWO Connors.

Semper Fidelis,

Rob Abbott
